We, the undersigned residents of El Dorado County, urge the county to expedite approval for these state-funded, urgently needed housing and services for Native Americans:
1. Residential Facility for Young Pregnant Native Women & Babies (Rescue, CA) – 7,225 sq. ft., 16-bedroom single story home for young mothers and their infants.
2. Native Veterans’ Multi-Purpose Wellness and Resource Center(Shingle Springs, CA) – 5,200 sq. ft. wellness and resource center for Native veterans.
3. Licensed Adult Residential Facility for Native Women with Disabilities (Rescue, CA) – 5,250 sq. ft., single story 15-bedroom home for Native women needing care and support.
4. Licensed Adult Residential Facility for Native Veteran Men (Shingle Springs, CA) – 5,250 sq. ft., single story 15-bedroom home providing stability for Native veteran men.
These projects are exempt from zoning and CEQA because they are ministerial under state law. These projects will provide critical housing and services to historically underserved Native American communities. They are also licensed and regulated by the State, ensuring safety and quality standards for the entire community.
Despite approvals from the Fire and Building Departments, the Planning Department has stalled construction permits, over three to six months for two projects despite the fact that Fire and Building already approved the grading and building applications. We call on the El Dorado County Planning Department and Board of Supervisors to support these native projects, release the permits, and stop delaying housing and support for vulnerable Native women and veterans.
These projects mean safety, stability, and healing for vulnerable Native women and veterans. Stand with us—sign this petition today!
